COMMON OBJECTIONS TO BECOMING A CHIRSTIAN

 

  1. Loved one will be offended

·        Mat. 10:37 “If you love father or mother more than me”

·        Mat. 6:25 “God will take care of you”        

·        Mat. 6:33 “Seek kingdom first”

 

  1. I would be condemning my loved ones

·        2 Cor. 5:10 “ Give account of what we do”

·        If you and a loved one both had a disease that would be fatal without treatment and you found a doctor who could cure the disease, what would you do?

a.       Take the cure yourself and tell the loved about it or if they refuse the cure would you refuse it also?

·        If the love one is dead, read and discuss Luke 16:19-31

a.       Rich man wanted to warn his brothers not to com to this place (Wouldn’t you want to tell a loved one the same thing? )

b.      Destiny of dead cannot be changed because of the great gulf.

c.       We have no control over what happens to a dead loved one, but we do have control over our own destiny.

d.      One can only do what one has learned to do. Your loved one may never have learned what you know now. They are in the hands of a just and merciful God who will do the right thing.

 

  1. I’ve already been baptized.

·        Baptism must be for the right reason.

a.       Acts 22:16 – “Wash away sins”

b.      1 Peter 3:21 – Salvation, one cannot believe error and obey truth

c.       Acts 19:1-5 – Example of re-baptism

 

  1. I think I’m saved

·        Prov. 14:12 – “ There is a way that seems right”

·        Isa. 55:8-9 – “My ways, thoughts higher than your”

·        Acts 22:19-20 – Paul persecuted Christians

·        Acts 23:1 – With all good conscience

·        Acts 26:9 – Paul thought  he should do many things contrary to Christ

·        Acts 26:19-29 – Paul changed

 

  1. No power in water

·        Right! Power in blood of Christ

·        Water makes blood effective. Can’t get into actual blood

·        In Acts, we find examples of those who obeyed. They knew:

a.       They were lost

b.      Christ saves when we obey

c.       What to do to obey

·        Life is uncertain – James 4:14

·        Danger in waiting – Acts 24:25

·        Someday – When? Set a date! Someday not on calendar.

 

  1. God will tell me if this is what He wants me to do.

·        God is telling you now through His Word

·        Heb. 1:1 – “God speaks through His Son”

·        2 Tim. 3:16 – “All Scripture”

·        John 20:30-31 – “These are written that you might believe”

·        Jude 1:4 – “Faith once delivered to the Saints”
